Your guide, James Lawson-Smith.

james and daniel guided huntsI began my early hunting career in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Karoo, and hunted Kudu, Duiker, Common Reedbuck and Nyala. Our family then relocated to Hermanus where I had the opportunity to hunt Eland, Bontebok, Vaal Rhebuck and Springbok, and developed an intimate knowledge of the hunting areas and game within the Western Cape.

I am a keen wing shooter and love a day in the veld with one of my Springer Spaniels.

From an early age I dived for Crayfish and Abalone. I gained my Springbok colours for the South African Spear Fishing Team in 2004, at the World Championships in Chile.

As a result of my forays into the wild, I have experienced incredible sightings and opportunities and developed a very keen interest in photography.

After my schooling, I did my military service in the South African Navy.

I completed my tertiary education at Elsenburg Agricultural College in Stellenbosch. This was followed by a course in underwater diving in Cape Town.

I then pursued a career in the Aquaculture Industry, and for 15 years was CEO/GM/MD of an Abalone Farm in the Western Cape.

I am married with 3 children and live in the beautiful coastal town of Hermanus.

"The best thing about hunting and fishing,' the Old Man said, 'is that you don't have to actually do it to enjoy it. You can go to bed every night thinking about how much fun you had twenty years ago, and it all comes back clear as moonlight."
